# Game: Number in Indian number system, International system

Indian number system uses Lakh, Crores, Arabs. The system starts with 10000 and then is followed by two-digit split after the hundredth place. Example  39,30,71,425 is thirty-nine crores thirty lakh seventy-one thousand four hundred and twenty-five.

While Western Countries like the USA, Europe use Million, Billions, Trillions etc which is called international number system. It is based on ten to the power three (103). It has a three-digit split in the numbers. Example  393,071,425 is three hundred ninety-three million, seventy-one thousand and four hundred and twenty-five.

Both number systems are read from left to right the digits are placed from left to right under the places labelled as Units, Tens, Hundreds, Thousands… etc., and read accordingly.

Both numbers system are positional, which means that the position of a number has importance than the value of that number. For example, the position of the 3 in the number 435,681 gives it value much greater than the value of the 8 in that same number

## How to convert Lakhs to Millions and Crores to Billions

• 1 Lakh      = 1 followed by 5 Zeros = 100,000
• 1 Million  = 1 followed by 6 Zeros =  1,000,000
• 1 Crore    = 1 followed by 7 Zeros =  10,000,000
• 1 Billion    = 1 followed by 9 Zeros = 1000,000,000
